Welcome to Datong Chinese School.

For more than three decades, Datong Chinese School has provided Chinese language learning and cultural education for children and families in Sydney. Established in 1992, Datong has developed into a community language school offering Chinese programs across several campuses in the Sydney metropolitan area.

Our aim is to provide students with opportunities to learn Chinese, develop their language skills, participate in cultural activities and build confidence in using Chinese in different contexts.

Datong welcomes students with different language backgrounds and levels of Chinese experience. Whether your child is a beginning learner of Chinese, speaks Chinese at home, or is preparing for HSC Chinese, we encourage families to discuss your child's needs with our school and the learning pathway.

2. OUR HISTORY AND SCHOOL PROFILE 学校历史与概况

Datong Chinese School was founded in 1992 by the Chinese-English Bilingual Society of the University of Sydney.

The school is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit community language school. It is registered with the NSW Department of Education Community Language School Program and receives government funding. The school is also registered with NSW Fair Trading and the Australian Taxation Office.

Over the years, Datong has developed programmes for students from preschool through to Grade 12, as well as advanced Chinese programmes.The school also provides a range of additional educational and cultural programmes, including visual arts, dance, wushu, and parent activities.

Annual and external activities have included Chinese speech competitions, handwriting and essay competitions, winter concerts, Chinese Eisteddfod activities, Chinese writing competitions, HSK examinations, Chinese New Year community programs and other cultural projects.

大同中文学校成立于1992年，由悉尼大学中英双语学会创办。

学校是一所非政治性、非宗教性、非营利性的社区语言学校，在新州教育部 Community Language School Program 注册并获得政府资助，同时在NSW Fair Trading及澳大利亚税务局注册。

经过三十多年的发展，大同中文学校已开设从学前儿童至12年级的中文课程，以及高级汉语课程。学校同时开设美术、舞蹈、武术课程以及家长活动。

学校及学生还参与中文演讲、书法、作文、朗诵、音乐会、中文写作比赛、HSK汉语水平考试、中国新年社区活动及其他语言文化项目。

Datong's main Chinese learning pathway includes:

Depending on the campus, students may also have access to:

• Other talent and performance programs

6. TIMETABLE AND SCHOOL YEAR 上课时间与学校校历

Datong follows a term-based program.

For 2026, the published school calendar is:

The number of teaching weeks varies between terms.

Parents should check the latest term timetable before enrolling.

Example: Ashfield Public School

The 2026 timetable includes Chinese classes at several times, including:

• 9:30am–11:20am
• 11:30am–1:20pm
• 2:00pm–3:50pm

Other programmes such as visual art, dance and Wushu are also scheduled at different times.

After-school classes

The published after-school programmes generally run from approximately 3:15pm to 5:15pm, depending on the campus.

7. FEES AND DISCOUNTS学费及优惠

The following is the fee information currently published by Datong for a 10-week or 9-week term.

These are 2026 published fees and may change in future terms.

Payment

Parents may generally pay:

• by individual lesson; or
• by paying for the whole term.

Some programs receive a discount when paid by term.

Sibling discount

The school currently publishes an additional 10% sibling discount on the term-payment price for Chinese and drawing classes, subject to the school's conditions.

Textbooks

A $20 Chinese textbook and workbook fee is payable at the beginning of the school year or when a student enrols.

Bank transfer

When making a bank transfer, parents should enter the student's full English name in the payment reference/comment field.

Important: Parents should check the current fee notice for the relevant term before making payment.

兄弟姐妹优惠

目前学校公布的规定为：兄弟姐妹同时报名时，中文及绘画课程在学期缴费优惠价基础上可再享受10%的兄弟姐妹优惠，具体以学校规定为准。

课本及练习本

中文课本及练习本费用为$20，在每学年第一学期或新生入学时缴纳。

银行转账

通过银行转账缴费时，请在备注栏填写学生的英文全名。

重要提示： 缴费数额以当学期最新收费通知为准。

8. LEARNING, ACTIVITIES AND STUDENT EXPERIENCE 学习、活动与学生体验

Datong believes that learning Chinese can extend beyond the regular classroom.

Students may have opportunities to participate in:

• Chinese speech competitions
• Essay writing competitions
• Handwriting and calligraphy activities
• Chinese reading and recitation
• Gala and concerts
• Chinese music and cultural activities
• HSK Chinese Proficiency Test
• Chinese New Year community events
• Student writing and cultural projects
• Language and cultural trips, where available

Students can also participate in other programs such as dance, visual art, and Wushu, depending on the campus.

These activities can provide students with opportunities to practise Chinese, perform, communicate, develop confidence and participate in the wider community.

9. ENROLMENT AND GETTING STARTED 报名及入学

Step 1 – Choose a campus

Consider:

• location
• weekend or after-school program
• child's age
• current Chinese level
• preferred class time
• other activities your child may attend

Step 2 – Choose an appropriate level

Parents should provide information about the child's previous Chinese learning experience.

For example:

• Has your child studied Chinese before?
• Does your child speak Chinese at home?
• Can your child read Chinese characters?
• Can your child write in Chinese?
• Has your child attended another Chinese school?
• Is your child preparing for HSC Chinese?

The school can help determine an appropriate class where necessary.

Step 3 – Complete enrolment

Parents can use the Datong Chinese School Enrolment and Registration Form linked from the school's website.

Step 4 – Confirm timetable and fees

Before attending, confirm:

• campus
• class
• day
• time
• current fee
• textbook requirements

Step 5 – Attend a trial lesson, and start!

Parents are encouraged to bring the child to take a trial lesson. If the child is happy and the schedule is suitable, then formal lessons will start in the following week.

第五步：试课及正式注册上课

我们鼓励家长带孩子来一次试课。如果孩子开心满意，时间安排合适，下一周正式入学上课。
